Best in SA packaging shine at Gold Pack Awards 2019

The winners of this year’s IPSA Gold Pack Awards, the premier showcase for the South African packaging industry, was announced at Inanda Club in Sandton on 30 October. Dating back to 1973, the annual event celebrates local companies in the packaging industry that are driving innovation and professionalism. Big winners on the night were Unilever, which walked off with 4 Gold medals, including recognition for its Sustainable Living Plan; and the Goats do Roam 3l Bag in Box Wine Carton entered by Shave & Gibson Packaging, which scooped the main Gold Pack Trophy and Gold in the Alcoholic Beverages Packaging category and Best in Paper category.

FoodStuff South Africa: All the Food Winners

Gold, Silver and Bronze awards as well as the ultimate Gold Pack Trophy – were announced at the awards ceremony on 30 October 2019. The top trophy this year went to Shave & Gibson for an innovative wine bag-in-box for Fairview Wines. The expert judges always look for the excellent application and execution of innovation and creative design and technology. It’s understood that a technological concept might not be the original but has been used in a manner that makes it exceptional on the local market.

Golf Pack Awards 2019 – Fairview triumphs!

The Institute of packaging SA’s Gold Pack Awards are the showcase for the local packaging industry – here is news of the 2019 beverage winners, with Fairview Wines’s novel rendition of bag-in-box wine taking the top prize for converter, Shave & Gibson. “This handbag-shaped carton, designed for the well-established Goats Do Roam brand, meets a specific brief to play on wrods “Bag-in-Box’. Extraordinary technical development was required to meet the brand owner’s exciting creative requirements.

New eco-friendly packaging brand aims to replace plastic

DURBAN-based Shave & Gibson Packaging has launched a new brand within the company, Earthpak, with the stated aim of replacing plastic, polystyrene and metal food trays and cartons.

“We chose the name Earthpak as we wanted a brand that would resonate with the general public. We tried to find a name that was self-explanatory for what we are providing – a packaging solution that will leave a gentle footprint on our earth,” said Commercial Manager Richard Downes, Shave & Gibson

Top beverage winners in SA’s 2017 Packaging Oscars

The IPSA Gold Pack Awards are a prestigious biennial event showcasing the best of SA’s packaging industry. The 2017 winners were announced at a banquet in Gauteng on November 22, with some great beverage concepts among them.

The board of judges awarded the title of Best Product Overall and the IPSA Gold Pack trophy to an innovative and eco-friendly spice grinder. But here are some of the beverage-related winners….

Investment at Shave & Gibson

Shave & Gibson, one of South Africa’s leading privately owned manufacturers of litho printed cartons and E-flute boxes for the FMCG, beverage and industrial markets in the Republic, has installed Vetaphone corona treatment technology on a 1500mm sheeter at its plant in Mobeni, an industrial suburb of Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The sale is part of Vetaphone’s drive to focus on wide web applications and is the eighth of its type in South Africa in recent times.

Today, it counts among leading independents when it comes to production of folding cartons and laminated boxes. Cap Classique pioneer, Simonsig, has scooped a 2009 Gold Pack Trophy for its limited release, designer box which showcases the estate’s proudly South African, Pinotage driven Méthode Cap Classique – Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé.

The winning design of this exclusive gift pack – a collaborative triumph for Shave & Gibson Group (Pty) Ltd, manufacturers of packaging and printing products and creative agency Jenisis – excelled as the overall champion in the Innovative Finishing Techniques category.
